One of the biggest draws to Iceland for me was the photographic experience. Lately, Iceland has been all over the internet with unbelievable travel photography as well as weddings, elopements and engagement shoots. I was mesmerized by the scenery in these photos.
One place in particular that grabbed my attention and did not let go was Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach near Vík. The volcanic island shaped some pretty incredible cliffs in Iceland and this beach had one of the coolest rock formations I’ve ever seen. The basalt rock formed into tall geometric angular rocks that were accessible to climb on as they were perched right on the beach.
The only drawback for this shoot was the cold and the high winds. Armed with leggings, jeans, Sorel boots and a dress, I was ready to take it on. Having never done a proper self portrait shoot, I knew I was in for a challenge. Once everything was started, the excitement took over and the images developed into something very special to me. Thank you Josh for being my trigger hand and for being such an attentive and patient partner both in and out of the photographs.
I hope you enjoy!

A quick look at the behind the scenes of this shoot. In between shots, I’ve never been happier to put a coat on in my life. Some of the photographs were taken with a device called a CamRanger. It’s this super cool device that plugs into your camera turning it into a wifi hotspot so that your phone can not only snap the photos but choose settings and focal points. It totally appeased my inner nerd.
